Live-action “Aladdin” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” screenwriter John August has been set to pen the animated musical “Toto” for Warner Animation Group.
“Toto” tells the story of L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” but from the point of view of Dorothy’s dog. The film will be based on Michael Morpurgo’s book “Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz” so don’t expect a dark gritty reboot of the material.
Jared Stern is attached to produce. August is also developing the “Grease” prequel “Summer Nights” in development at Paramount Players.
