Did Bond 25 Director’s Video Game Addiction Delay Production?
So far, the production on James Bond 25 has been anything but smooth. Director Danny Boyle departed the project just months before filming was originally scheduled to begin, Daniel Craig broke his ankle on set while filming and there have been several reports claiming the script is being rewritten constantly on set. Plus, there was an on-set explosion earlier this month that injured a crew member. Recently, to add further fuel to the fire, it was reported that director Cary Fukunaga delayed production for hours while he was busy with his PlayStation 4. Now, Fukunaga has responded.
Just to recap. A recent report stated that crew members on set waited for hours until Cary Fukunaga eventually arrived, three hours late. The crew then became “mutinous” as they were asked to come in on a weekend over Father’s Day to make up for it. Fukunaga has heard this rumor and recently took to Instagram in order to address it. Here’s what he had to say.
“Our Production Designer/Artful master of living for the day, Mark Tildesley, commented to me once that being a director must feel like dying of a thousand cuts, because of the constant stream of questions one must field. There’s not a minute on this job that isn’t scheduled, and even during a shoot day, in the hours before call, between takes and setups, and after we wrap there’s always a line of dedicated and hard working department heads hungry to prep our next sequences, no one sleeps on this kind of job.
So sure it’s hard, but it’s still the best job in the world and I’d never disrespect the hardest working cast and crew. We’re all in this together. As for my PS4 relationship, if my RDR2 [Red Dead Redemption 2] progress is any indication, it’s been stunted at 63% for months and if anyone spoils the end for me before I wrap on B25 I’m going to be pissed.”
That would seem to be the end of that, assuming we take Cary Fukunaga at his word. Frankly, it does seem unlikely that the producers and anyone else with any power on set would put up with such a thing. A delay is one thing. It’s moviemaking. It happens. But over video games? That would be something else.

Granted, it’s possible there was, indeed, a delay for a few hours. It’s possible the crew was unhappy and they aimed their frustration the director’s way. He is in charge, after all. But that doesn’t mean it actually had to do with video games, if there was ever such a delay at all.
What we know for sure is that this is going to be Daniel Craig’s final go-around as 007. This time around, he’s going to be going up against recent Oscar-winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), who is on board to portray the movie’s main villain. Hopefully, the production can overcome all of this negative energy and give Craig’s Bond the send off he truly deserves. James Bond 25 is currently set to hit theaters on April 8, 2020.
