Ford V Ferrari First Look at Christian Bale and Matt Damon
Christian Bale and Matt Damon are the focus of the Ford Vs. Ferrari first-look images. Bale plays Ken Miles and Damon plays Carroll Shelby on the Ford team. James Mangold is directing the project, which he calls a “relationship movie.” There has been quite the buzz surrounding the movie and even talks of awards in the near future, which is more than likely why the movie was pushed back to the fall from its original release date this summer.
Ford v Ferrari features Matt Damon and Christian Bale as they get behind the wheel of classic Ford cars in an attempt to build a car that can beat Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France. The drama is based on the relationship between Bale’s Ken Miles and Damon’s Carroll Shelby as they work together. James Mangold had this to say about the movie and the performances from Damon and Bale.
“As we were making it, we joked that it was the last movie ever. Luckily, we had this great character drama that was inside this other story. These are real people with love and loss and fears that aren’t handled in three mini-moments between the next 100-decibel, 12-minute action sequence. And it’s an acting tour de force – Matt and Christian have never been better.”
James Mangold is making Ford v Ferrari fresh off of his success from 2017’s Logan. The director received heaps of praise for his comic book movie and a lot of it was because of how real it seemed. As it turns out, that element was no accident and it’s something the Mangold brought with him to his latest project. He explains.
“One of the main goals with Logan was that I felt the superhero genre had gotten so CGI’d, so I wanted to make it as emotionally and physically real as possible. And that very much carried over into Ford v Ferrari. I wanted to see a racing film where the cars weren’t all digital creations (and) we were really out there on the track. And not just so we could talk about it when we’re doing press, but because it actually makes a physical difference when you see it on screen.”
“To feel those cars come roaring by is why people love racing,” Says Matt Damon, and he’s right. Digitized racing wasn’t going to cut it for Ford v Ferrari. However, the task was a lot harder than just using a computer for everything, which should pay off when the movie hits theaters later this year. Damon said that the real racing in the movie helped his acting because he and Christian Bale didn’t have to imagine the cars whipping by.
Ford v Ferrari hits theaters on November 15th, which should put in prime position for awards season. Response to the first footage shown at last month’s CinemaCon was off the charts and with these first-look images out now, a trailer should be out for the world to see very soon. With that being said, you can check out the images below, thanks to Entertainment Weekly while we wait for the trailer to drop.
