Ghostbusters 2016 Director Keeps Hope Alive for Answer the Call Sequel
As some of you guys might know, director Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters reboot starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones – now evidently going by the title Ghostbusters: Answer the Call – has its share of rabid supporters. In fact, the fanbase is currently trying to convince the powers that be behind the scenes at Columbia Pictures to greenlight a sequel, and today it looks like Feig is still interested in returning for more busting of the ghost variety.
Paul Feig was recently interviewed about the movement for Ghostbusters: Answer the Call 2 and said this.
“Thank you so much, thank you for keeping the torch alive for Answer the Call. We’re hoping there’s a second call, and if we do get it, it’s all because of you.”
While I’m glad to see Feig and friends still stand by their movie (which isn’t terrible), I’m wondering how fans think it should fit in with the upcoming Ghostbusters 3 directed by Jason Reitman. That film stars Mckenna Grace (The Haunting of Hill House), Carrie Coon (Gone Girl), and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and seems to be chugging right along towards its scheduled release in summer 2020. Hell, we were even just hit with the recent additions of original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 stars Sigourney Weaver and possibly Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. Maybe there is room in this ever-expanding Ghostbusters universe for the two teams to join forces. I mean all it would take is some kind of dimensional portal to open up or something like that. Hell, I’d watch it.
For those of you that might not know, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call followed the misadventures of a paranormal researcher played by Melissa McCarthy who joins forces with a physicist played by Kristen Wiig to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. But when ghosts start appearing all over New York, McCarthy and Wiig turn to an engineer played by Kate McKinnon for help. A lifelong New Yorker played by Leslie Jones soon joins them and, armed with proton packs and “plenty of attitudes,” the four new Ghostbusters prepare for an epic battle against 1,000 ghouls in Times Square.
