Gwyneth Paltrow Doesn’t Remember Being in Spider-Man: Homecoming
Most actors or actresses would kill to be in a massive blockbuster movie, even briefly. It’s the kind of experience one would likely never forget. That is, unless you’re Gwyneth Paltrow, apparently. The actress has appeared in a number of Marvel Cinematic Universe entries as Pepper Potts, so big movies are nothing new to her. Still, it’s pretty amazing to find out that she, very genuinely, had absolutely no idea she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The actress recently appeared as a guest on Netflix’s new cooking show The Chef Show, which is co-hosted by Jon Favreau and chef Roy Choi. For his part, Favreau directed the first Iron Man, as well as its sequel, and has appeared as Happy Hogan in a number of MCU movies alongside Gwyneth Paltrow, including Spider-Man: Homecoming. When he brought that specific experience up with the actress on the show, she was beyond confused. Here’s how the exchange went.
Jon Favreau: We were actually doing it when we were filming Spider-Man, that was the first time. We just brought a film crew with us down to Atlanta, and we cooked at…

Gwyneth Paltrow: Spider-Man?
Jon Favreau: Well yeah, we were on Spider-Man together. Remember we were on Spider-Man?
Gwyneth Paltrow: We weren’t in Spider-Man.
Jon Favreau: Yes we were, you were in Spider-Man.
Gwyneth Paltrow: No, I was in Avengers.
Jon Favreau: No, but Spider-Man also. Remember Spider-Man, at the end, and Tom Holland’s there, and you’re gonna walk out and do a press conference, and I give you the ring.
Gwyneth Paltrow: Oh yes! That was Spider-Man? Oh my god!
Talk about embarrassing. To be fair, Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t pop up in the movie till the very end. She showed up during what was supposed to be a press conference introducing Spider-Man as the newest member of The Avengers. When Tom Holland’s Peter Parker declines Tony Stark’s invite, they have to do some quick thinking. So, Tony decides to propose to Pepper for the gathered members of the press.
It’s also pretty important to remember that Marvel is intense when it comes to keeping the movie’s secrets. Actors often don’t even get to read the full script much of the time. Since it was a small role, and since Gwyneth Paltrow probably wasn’t clued in as to what was going on in the rest of the movie, it’s actually not that hard to see how she may have just blurred that experience together with her work on both Infinity War and this year’s Avengers: Endgame.
Taken for what it is, this serves as a funny, playful moment in a new show that is just meant to be fun and playful. Still, it is remarkable to think an actress could forget being in a movie that grossed nearly $900 million at the box office. Maybe we’ll see Pepper Potts show up again in next month’s Spider-Man: Far From Home? And maybe she’ll have more than one scene so it makes it easier for her to remember. The Chef Show is now streaming on Netflix. Be sure to check out the clip in question below.
Gwyneth Paltrow genuinely did not know she was in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” so this adorable interaction from “The Chef Show” is easily my favorite thing on the internet today pic.twitter.com/lc3VlSs1Hp
