Kingsman Star Taron Egerton Wanted as Wolverine in the MCU?
Take this for what it’s worth, but Taron Egerton is rumored to be in the running to play Wolverine when the character finally debuts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to We Got This Covered, Egerton is one of a handful of actors Marvel Studios is currently considering for the part. Perhaps the 29-year-old actor got their attention with his recent portrayal of Elton John in the biopic Rocketman, which has earned him immense critical praise.
Taron Egerton is also known for playing Gary “Eggsy” Unwin in the 2014 movie Kingsman: The Secret Service and its 2017 sequel, in addition to the titular role in last year’s Robin Hood.
Of course, if the rumor is true, it’s still nothing more than a remote possibility at this point. There are no immediate plans to bring the X-Men into any MCU movies currently on the slate, although their debut into the series canon is just a matter of time. Following the bomb that Dark Phoenix turned out to be, what’s next is for X-Men to be reborn as a part of the MCU. It remains to be seen whether some or all of the characters will first be making a guest appearance in another MCU movie or if they’ll first have their own solo project. Either way, it will likely be many years before we see it happen.

There’s no shortage of actors available for the part if it doesn’t go to Egerton. John Wick star and beloved internet sensation Keanu Reeves has expressed his interest in playing Wolverine if he could play any superhero. Aquaman‘s Jason Momoa and Pacific Rim: Uprising‘s Scott Eastwood have also shown interest in becoming the next Logan. Humorously enough, even It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Danny DeVito has come up as a potential name for the next Wolverine, thanks to a fan petition created online which has received over 43,000 signatures as of this writing.
Whoever does end up becoming the new Logan will have some pretty big boots to fill. Of course, Hugh Jackman was legendary in the role, with his run as Wolverine first beginning in the year 2000 with the original X-Men. He would reprise the role throughout many sequels over the coming years, parting ways with Wolverine after the 2017 solo movie Logan. His portrayal has earned Jackman the Guinness World Record of “longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero.” These days, Jackman can be seen on a concert tour performing songs from the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman.
In addition to the Wolverine rumor, Taron Egerton is also reportedly being eyed by DC to possibly play Green Arrow in the DCEU. As with the other report, however, his name is just one of many actors being considered, so nothing is a lock at this point. In any case, even if neither of these castings end up happening, Egerton is definitely going places. You can next catch him in the Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
