Midsommar Final Trailer Celebrates First Day of Summer with Screams of Terror
We have a brand new trailer for Midsommar, just in time for the first official day of summer. Today just so happens to be the summer solstice and the folks at A24 decided to take advantage of that by using it to, rather appropriately, hype up one of their most highly-anticipated releases coming down the pipeline this year. This serves as the follow-up to director Ari Aster’s breakout 2018 horror hit Hereditary and the early indication is he may very well have another hit on his hands. If this trailer is any indication (and since I’ve seen the movie I can assure you, it definitely is), it’s going to be a very different kind of horror experience.
I should caution, having seen the movie, that this trailer does appear to be a bit heavy on what some might consider spoilers. Though, this still may help sway those who are on the fence that are in need of more convincing one way or the other. The trailer kicks off making this whole thing look like a wonderful vacation to a secluded little paradise. It never loses its bright shine and color, but things do get dark and strange. The video takes us through some of the activities those in the movie are going to experience and many of them are things we would all like to enjoy during a summer trip. Games, dancing, drinking. But others, not so much.
Another surprising element of this trailer is the humor. There are several good gags layered in there and, for anyone who has seen Hereditary, that may come as a bit of a surprise. The cast is led by Florence Pugh, who has been earning a great deal of praise for her performance thus far. The rest of the ensemble is rounded out by Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Archie Madekwe, Ellora Torchia and Will Poulter. Those who watch the trailer will note much of the comedy comes from Poulter’s end.

Midsommar centers on Dani and Christian, a young American couple who are having some major relationship troubles. Following a devastating family tragedy, Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival, which takes place at a remote village in Sweden. Things start out as a carefree summer vacation. However, things take a dark turn when the locals invite their guests to take part in festivities that start out unsettling and rapidly escalate.
Critics, so far, have responded very well to Ari Aster’s latest thriller. As of this writing, the movie holds a 92 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 26 reviews counted. Will this be another surprise horror hit for Aster this year? We won’t have to wait too much longer to find out. Midsommar is set to arrive in theaters on July 3.
