New Wonder Woman 1984 Poster Arrives with Bad News About Comic-Con
The first official poster for Wonder Woman 1984 has been revealed. Very recently, a banner for the highly-anticipated sequel made its way online after being spotted at the Licensing Expo. Not long after, director Patty Jenkins decided to share the actual poster for the movie, which gives Gal Gadot’s titular hero a seriously colorful 80s makeover. Unfortunately, this might be the only official bit of marketing we get for some time.
It was recently revealed via several reports that Warner Bros. won’t be making a presentation in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con next month, which they usually do. That means we won’t be getting trailers for upcoming DC movies, such as Wonder Woman 1984, at that time. In response to this, Patty Jenkins took to Twitter to not just confirm that news, but to share the poster to help give fans a little taste of what’s to come. Here’s what she had to say in her caption.
“By now you’ve heard: WB isn’t going to Hall H this year. We’re so sad to miss you there! And waiting until Dec. to start our official #WW84 campaign in full, But the truth is… we can just… barely… wait…”
It’s pretty clear we’re not going to get a trailer till much later in the year, based on what’s being said here. As for the poster itself, colorful would be the key word. It’s absolutely bathed in bright pink, blue, yellow, purple and green in very stylized fashion. At the center, we see Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, in an entirely new outfit. Instead of the more classic look, the DC hero is decked out in golden armor looking ready to go to war. The poster doesn’t even have the title. That said, it certainly gets the point across. Gal Gadot also shared the poster on Twitter and had this to say.

“I cannot wait to share #WW84 with you all!! Until then we thought you might want to see this.. “
Wonder Woman, released in 2017 ahead of Justice League, was the first DC movie of this current era that really was a hit with critics and at the box office. It helped turn the tide and put this universe on the right track. As such Warner Bros. was very eager to get the sequel going as quickly as possible. Much of the success was owed to director Patty Jenkins. Since Warner Bros. didn’t lock her down for the sequel initially, Patty Jenkins was able to negotiate a very lucrative deal for herself.
The sequel will see Diana Prince fighting a Soviet threat during the height of the Cold War, with one of her arch foes Cheetah also set to be brought into the fold, as portrayed by Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids). The rest of the cast includes Chris Pine, Pedro Pascal, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright. Wonder Woman 1984 is set to arrive in theaters on June 4, 2020. Be sure to check out the poster from Patty Jenkins’ Twitter account below.
