In March 2021, Band of Robbers directing duo Aaron and Adam Nee will be unleashing their new take on Masters of the Universe with To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before breakout Noah Centineo taking on the role of He-Man. And this weekend, Centineo talked a bit about taking on the iconic character from our collective childhood. Centineo says that while the movie is “a really big responsibility” and “a big opportunity,” he feels “more than ready to tackle it.”

Specifically, Noah Centineo says this.

“It’s a really big responsibility. This is like first one in, last one out every single day, which I’ve done before but I’ve never done it on a studio level. Which studio level is the same as indie, but like they got playback. So it not like that much (laughs). But it’s cool, man. It’s a big opportunity, and I feel more than ready to tackle it.”

As most of you guys out there are more than aware; this will not be the first time He-Man and his fellow Masters of the Universe have made their way to the big screen. Back in August 1987, Cannon Films unleashed director Gary Goddard’s take on the series with the cult classic starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. But that movie is admittedly campy as all hell. So will this new movie be going the campy/fun route of something such as Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok or something more serious ala Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings?

When asked about the film’s tone, Centineo added.

“It’s a new universe, and it’s a new studio and their take on a universe. The Nee brothers, Adam and Aaron Nee, they’re directing it, and they’re the filmmakers in charge of the story, and they are doing one hell of a job developing the world and all these things, so. I can’t tell you what tone they’re going for, but they’re genius, so.”

Dammit. The film’s tone is what this here fanboy is MOST interested in figuring out. I think another Masters of the Universe film could work either way if placed in the right hands, but personally, I’m hoping the powers that be behind the scenes lean more towards Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok than Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings. But maybe that’s just me.

And finally, when asked if he’s been standing in front of the mirror yelling, “I have the power!” Centineo said this.

“Oh, I’ve been screaming it until my voice is probably fried, man.”

Band of Robbers directing duo Aaron and Adam Nee are helming this new take on Masters of the Universe from a screenplay written by Iron Man and Men in Black: International scribes Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. Principal photography on the film is scheduled to begin in Prague in mid-July 2019, and Sony has announced that the film’s release date will be March 5, 2021. This story comes to us via a quick interview Centineo held with MTV at the recent MTV Movie & TV Awards posted over on Twitter.
