“Booksmart” director Olivia Wilde is set to direct and produce “Perfect,” a true story tale about gymnast Kerri Strug’s triumph against all odds to win Team USA’s first gold medal at the 1996 Olympics.
Based on the book “Landing On My Feet, A Diary Of Dreams” by Strug and John P. Lopez, the film will deal with how Strug completed her final vault at the Atlanta Olympics on an already badly injured ankle. She made her landing as required, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
She then collapsed and was carried onto the medals podium to join her team, after which she was treated at a hospital for tendon damage. She became a famous figure, even as the feat cost her in other ways.
Ronnie Sandahl (“Borg-McEnroe”) penned the script and Riverstone Pictures and Pulse Films will produce the film with casting underway. Wilde will next directing “Don’t Worry, Darling” with this expected come after.
