Richard Dreyfuss is at it again. The veteran actor has no problem expressing how he is feeling or telling it like it is. In a new interview, he alleges Bill Murray was verbally and physically abusive to him on the set of What About Bob? and that Harrison Ford was a jerk to him too. Dreyfuss will be the first to admit that he isn’t the easiest guy to get along with and he has quite the reputation in Hollywood for saying whatever he wants.

In a recent interview, Richard Dreyfuss says “my favorite subject is myself.” The actor has no problem talking about roles he wished he had gotten (the lead in The Graduate), movies he thought were terrible, and behind-the-scenes scuffles. It’s no secret he and Bill Murray did not get along while making What About Bob?, but Dreyfuss now claims Murray was a bit of a bully. He explains.

“I didn’t talk about it for years… Bill Murray just got drunk at dinner. He was an Irish drunken bully, is what he was… He came back from dinner (one night) and I said, ‘Read this (script tweak), I think it’s really funny.’ And he put his face next to me, nose-to-nose. And he screamed at the top of his lungs, ‘Everyone hates you! You are tolerated!’ There was no time to react, because he leaned back and he took a modern glass-blown ashtray. He threw it at my face from (only a couple feet away). And it weighed about three quarters of a pound. And he missed me. He tried to hit me. I got up and left.”

It seems making American Graffiti with George Lucas wasn’t exactly the best experience either, though Richard Dreyfuss says he has made more money on that particular movie than anything he has ever worked on. While shooting the movie, it appears Harrison Ford and Bo Hopkins decided to have some fun with Dreyfuss, at his expense. Dreyfuss had this to say about his experience on the set.

“Harrison (Ford) and the leader of the gang (Bo Hopkins), one night the two of them got drunk and I was walking by and they threw me into the pool. And that was OK, except they threw me into the shallow end, and I got an egg on my forehead. And then there was the usual, ‘Who’s gonna f**k that girl?'”

Jaws is regarded as one of the best movies in cinematic history. However, Richard Dreyfuss didn’t feel that way when they were making it. There was a buzz going around on the set with people believing in what Steven Spielberg was doing at the time. Some were proven to be right, and others were proven to be wrong. Dreyfuss explains.

“Everyone had thought they had struck gold, and I said, ‘What are you talking about? It’s just a little movie.’ So when the film was released, I found myself going back to the talk shows and saying, ‘I’m the guy who didn’t believe in it.'”

Richard Dreyfuss seems to have a good sense of humor about everything. He still believes Bill Murray is a “pig” and he is angry that the comedian can still make him laugh, even though he “loathes” him. Dreyfuss is still waiting for the Lifetime Achievement Award too, and he has no problem letting the world know he deserves it.
