The Little Important Details You Might Have Missed

Stuck at home? So is ScreenCrush’s Matt Singer — which is why he’s watching things streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney+, HBO Max YouTube, Criterion, Tubi, and elsewhere, and then writing about what he finds. If you want to suggest something for him to watch and write about, find him on Twitter. Previous installments of this column can be found here.

Today’s Film:
Inception (2010)
Director: Christopher Nolan
Writer: Christopher Nolan
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe
Box Office Total: $828.3 million
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 87 percent
Currently Streaming On: Netflix

Why I Watched It: Tenet theoretically opens in theaters in a matter of weeks, and when a major filmmaker like Christopher Nolan has a new movie coming to theaters, I like to rewatch their old ones as preparation. It helps me reacquaint myself with the director’s favorite themes and tropes, and look for ideas or shots or actors that might reappear in their latest production. Inception was the only Nolan film on Netflix, and it had been a while since I rewatched it, so that’s where I started with my Tenet pregaming. I found a movie that awes me in many ways, and frustrates me in others. I’ll talk about that below.
