Shared universes seem to be all the rage these days, and today we have word on another one in the works. This time it will be a shared universe of horror films based on reimagined versions of classic fairytales and public domain characters from Circle of Confusion, the production company behind The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.

The first film in the series will be A Wicked Tale, which is described as a contemporary horror take on the classic Brothers Grimm tale, Hansel & Gretel. This flick is based on an original script written by Pay The Ghost and I.T. screenwriter Dan Kay that tells the tale of two college students who stumble upon something sinister in the local woods after an altercation with a fellow student leads to deadly consequences.

Along with being the production company behind AMC’s hit zombie series The Walking Dead and it’s successful spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead, Circle of Confusion has also been behind some other new classics. These projects include Netflix’s alien-adventure Rim Of The World directed by McG. And director Joe Lynch’s office space horror-comedy Mayhem starring The Walking Dead‘s Steven Yeun and The Babysitter‘s Samara Weaving. So it seems like the powers that be behind the scenes of this company sure do have a handle on what makes modern horror work.

That said, I’m not sure if I think this shared universe of reimagined fairytale horror movies is an awesome idea. But then again, I love the talent behind the camera of this first movie A Wicked Tale which is set to include Zack Andrews and Bobby Roe, who are best known for their killer found footage movies The Houses October Built and it’s sequel The Houses October Built 2. Andrews is set to direct A Wicked Tale and rewrite Kay’s script along with Roe. Andrews will also produce with Circle of Confusion’s Matt Smith and Lawrence Mattis, alongside Seasmoke Entertainment’s Josh Weinstock. Screenwriters Dan Kay and Bobby Roe will serve as executive producers with Brad Mendelsohn of Circle of Confusion.

For those of you out there that might not be aware of the films, both The Houses October Built and its sequel The Houses October Built 2 follow five friends who set off on a road trip to discover the scariest underground haunts. The first film centers on the group falling victim to a haunt called “The Blue Skeleton” and the sequel picks up with them deciding to face their fears while still recovering from the trauma of the previous Halloween as they head back out on the road. Needless to say, signs of the Blue Skeleton start appearing again.

Bobby Roe directed both flicks from scripts he wrote along with Zack Andrews and Jason Zada. On top of writing and directing the two semi-classic found footage movies, Andrews and Roe also starred in the films along with Brandy Schaefer, Mikey Roe, and Jeff Larson. The Houses October Built was released on October 10, 2014, and The Houses October Built 2 followed on September 22, 2017. This story comes to us via Deadline.
