Brace yourselves, as it’s looking increasingly like White Chicks 2 is on the way. Earlier this year, Marlon Wayans said that there were “rumblings” about a possible sequel to the 2004 Wayans brothers comedy. Now, cast member Terry Crews has added some fuel to the fire, saying that the movie is going to happen. Beyond that, not much is clear but it looks like this unlikely sequel just became a whole lot more likely.

Terry Crews has talked about the possible follow-up in two different interviews. First, he was asked about it by a caller on Watch What Happens Live. The actor didn’t mince words and revealed that Shawn Wayans, who co-starred in the movie alongside his brother Marlon Wayans, says it’s happening. Here’s what Crews had to say about it.

“You know what, I actually got with Shawn [Wayans], and he was like ‘man we doing it, we getting it going…’ Fifteen years ago, you have to understand. Fifteen years ago as of this month. I’m staying in shape just for that movie.”

While Terry Crews wouldn’t discuss any specific plot details, speaking on The Talk, they were recounting the scene in which he sings Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles. Crews joked that, today, that might more closely resemble a big top 40 pop song, like perhaps something by Carly Rae Jepsen. Or maybe even a rap.

“I think the modern day equivalent to that might be Carly Rae Jepsen ‘Call Me Maybe.’ But I would definitely do the whitest white girl song you would ever see. But white girls are singing gangster right now, you know what I mean? So it might be a little different, it might have a little rap thing in there. How ever we would do it, it’d be great.”

White Chicks, directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans, was originally released in 2004 by Sony Pictures. Working from a budget of $37 million, the movie grossed $113 million worldwide. That may not sound like a great return, but it’s not bad. Also, at that time, DVD sales and rental revenues were much higher. Plus, the movie was a mainstay on cable for years after its release. Point being, the movie did pretty well. This, despite the fact that it was absolutely destroyed by critics upon arrival, boasting just a 15 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Yet, it’s money that talks in Hollywood and, under the right circumstances, there could be money to make here. Comedy sequels that happen years after the original often don’t do terribly well, with Zoolander 2 and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues being prime examples. That said, it would be easy to see a streaming service like Netflix picking something like this up. So don’t be too surprised to hear something more official in the near future.
